Welcome to Excelsior Hotel Kings Cross
Excelsior Hotel Kings Cross presents a modest yet practical option for travelers seeking budget accommodation in central London. Nestled at 42 Argyle Square, this hotel occupies a charming five-storey Georgian townhouse, blending historic architecture with basic modern comforts. Its prime location offers exceptional connectivity, just a short three-minute walk from both St. Pancras International and King's Cross stations, making it ideal for visitors arriving by Eurostar or local rail services.
The rooms, while compact, maintain a standard of cleanliness that guests appreciate. Amenities such as free Wi-Fi and a hairdryer add functional value, although the absence of free parking, a pool, fitness center, or airport shuttle service reflects its no-frills approach. Guests can enjoy the view of the bustling Argyle Square green, complete with a park and basketball court, which adds a lively atmosphere but may affect noise levels.
Customer feedback reveals a mixed experience. The beds receive positive remarks for comfort, often exceeding expectations for a budget hotel. However, minor maintenance issues such as cracked door frames, dusty areas under the furniture, and malfunctioning lights detract from the overall stay. The TV quality has been noted as below par, which could disappoint guests looking for in-room entertainment.
While the staff may not stand out as exceptional, service is generally efficient and meets essential needs. The hotel’s smoke-free and kid-friendly policies make it suitable for families traveling with children, though pet owners will need to look elsewhere. Despite its imperfections, Excelsior Hotel Kings Cross offers a straightforward, well-located base for exploring London, especially for travelers prioritizing transit access and budget-conscious lodging over luxury.

The room smear small but clean. There was a hairdryer and the bed was more comfortable than my own (which is pretty comfortable. I wouldn't go as far as saying that the check-in staff were amazing but I got what I needed in good time. The location is great for underground and national rail. There is a park and basketball court in front of the hotel that my room looked over. It was busy and noisy with music etc but personally, I enjoyed watching and listening. The park was closed and locked up at around 10pm or 11pm anyway. I had a good night's sleep for a very important day. This place is not spectacular, but it certainly delivered what I needed it to, and I would use it for business purposes again.
The customer service was really friendly and helpful, Rooms looked lovely at first glance but looking deeper there were a few too many flaws - There was a crack above the Toilet door frame, extremely dusty under the bed, TV picture was terrible! it looked as if we were watching a Cartoon Strip style program and it was The Big Bang Theory, Bed sheets were very clean but ripped, 3 Lights were not working, neither was the towel heater. There was a strange switch that never turned anything on - Which i'm assuming was meant to be the vent so bathroom got very steamy, the shower door didn't close properly the grout in between tiles in bathroom were very dirty and if given a good scrub would be really nice! Shower didn't extend very high meaning tall people have to crouch when in the shower to wet neck up, There was little to no storage space and some could definitely be fitted under the be and no coat hooks on doors except inside the bathroom - meaning when we hung things up they got steamed and moist due to shower. some of the wooden blinds in the room were also broken so did not shut correctly. Check in stated that it was at 11am when booking but you can not go to your room until 2pm, and after getting a 9 hour bus to london and walking 2 hours to get to the hotel, this was rather inconvenient. you were able to leave bags which helped a lot. Writing this review made us realize just how many things were wrong with the room, but they did not affect the stay. which is a shame as hotel had a lot of potential and if these easily fixed things were done, it would have been 5 stars. Housekeeping were good, emptied bin, Bed was very comfy and sheets/pillows given were also high standard, room was always warm with an easy window to open and shut, standard sized room, hair dryer/straighteners available from front desk, Towels, Cups, Kettle, Small range of tea/coffee provided. No plates or cutlery were provided which would have been super!
